Like a tree planted by the river---

Kumasi

Always present with me is Black Africa's family. Kumasi is a beautiful city. Rich in history and culture, she continues to reflect her ancient history in modern witness. And life in Yabi is country life--African style. But seeing a community that has limited access to clean water was a lightning rod to my soul. Clean water is always an issue globally. Organizations worldwide support communities to access clean water yet--Yabi still has no clean water. And 1 billion other people around the world do not either.

At the same time I was having the revelation of global poverty, clean water access--I began to feel more creative than I ever have. The miracle of life is that if we try hard enough--we can all find the connections that build foundations. Social entrepreneurship has allowed me to combine clean water and artisanship to help not only Yabi, but impact other communities with clean water issues.

In the United States it is estimated 20 million  people a year do not have access to clean water. In New Orleans alone we have had 2 emergency Boil Alerts in 6 months, along with parishes lacking clean water access because of flooding. Yet the clean water awareness movement seems to lack the connection to the global numbers. Because I travel between the United States and Ghana--I have no choice but to see the connection. My children being my biggest concern, but since 2007--that concern has been extended to my own brothers and sisters, an entire community. It is said that experience is better than knowledge. And if we can connect our own experience to lacking clean water in emergencies here in the US--surely we can connect it to communities worldwide that live without it daily.

It is very heartening to see that all over the world this blog is read, I hope one day shared to even more. But just the fact of knowing that all of you care about clean water too is so encouraging. Every continent represented!! Let's make a difference in our generation and change how we access clean water. Without water life will not exist. It is our greatest resource! And our biggest civil right! Human Right!
