art + h2o = happy africa!

Kumasi Business District

2012 has begun with a great fervor! My trip to Ghana in November was terrific! I had not been to Ghana since 2007 when Black Africa and I were married. We spent most of our time in Kumasi with his family. But on a few occasion we ventured into the city, to markets and just walking through the business district. I even found a small strip mall that had Italian food including Calzones and Pizza, fresh French pastries, local food and big, juicy hamburgers! It even had a Play Place for the kids, if they were there! :)

It was amazing being back! And there were so many friends from 2007 to catch up with. Black Africa and I spent a lot of time planning how to move the mission forward. We met with a local site that may become host distribution site. I was able to see how much development is occurring in the country.

As we wound our way around Accra and Kumasi, I saw so much opportunity. In Osu, there will be a new multi-plex mall within 3 years. Most likely less time than that. It renewed my strength in our vision~to use art, fashion and commerce to help families drink clean h2o. That was one thing that has not changed. And seeing the children...helps make make the mission even more urgent! There is a new Ofori in the house! And he has stolen my heart!! Even though he speaks no English, and I no Twi. :)

I auditioned in February for Fashion Week Cleveland! I brought the new COLLECTION, inspired by both my life in New Orleans and my life by extension in Ghana. My Mother-in-law, as she did on my last trip, gifted me with beautiful cloth, and I was able to find some beautiful cloth in Kumasi and Accra. So the kids and I drove from NOLA to Cleveland last month. I learned a week later that I was not selected but the experience of creating an entire line in time for season was invaluable! And the end result is a new line of clothing including Urban Wear for Men! It's unknown now when or where it will be released right now but as developments come up we will update you!!

So right now things have slowed down enough but all the paperwork that goes with running a business has piled up. I'm taking a creative break to hang around the office and get things off the desk. :) But I do live in New Orleans, where on any given day...anything can happen!!
