Imagine a world without safe drinking water...

Today is WORLD WATER DAY! I've just spent the last hour or so surfing for videos to share about the serious water crisis that many of us are not aware is happening. And honestly that is not our fault. In the grand sense that no one talks about water in ways that we can grasp the concept of the need.

In 2007 I did not realize how dire the need was until I got sick. I got sick again this last November too. Both times was not because I DRANK water but
from showering and brushing my teeth. In seemingly clean water. In Ghana I found that the water supply is plenty. And as in relation to many images, most times one cannot sometimes see the contamination. It is microbiological. Yet as I said my mother in law knows that my system would not be able to handle the water. She is always right. This last time in November I had to rely on some of her native medicine to make me better.

I wrote before that many exciting things are in the works! I have submitted to two competitions to try to scale our mission so that the program can expand into community led total sanitation. Because when we think that people do not have access to clean water, we must also consider the lack of proper access to safe sanitation.

Isn't clean water a basic right?! Wouldn't safe sanitation be a responsibility of our governments? Do we wait for someone else to help? My vision for 5 years has been to create this social enterprise. Often not realizing many of the aspects I will need to know. Yet during these years I've gathered knowledge in how a business can do good and be sustainable. Although in the video they use a different method- these Gravity Bucket Filters by Rainfresh of Canada will allow households to filter their existing water supply. Infrastructure is the REAL answer. But how can that be done if it has not been already?! Do you realize the ancient Romans had cleaner water supplies than most of the world now?!?

It was not until last January I was finally able to start up the business. It's funny it has taken a lot more steps than I've even known existed. And constantly little blips that take quick thinking! Thanks to the new friends we've made! We were just joined by Italy and Serbia! Please learn more about our mission to use art, commerce and fashion to give access to clean h2o to families in Kumasi, Ghana on our Facebook  page.

Today- take a moment to remember it's WORLD WATER DAY!
