I have been very real with my readers here in my struggle to bring clean h2o water to families in Kumasi, Ghana. Last week that struggle became a little smaller when I learned that as an artist I can produce ceramic water filters at an 80% production cost reduction. It clicked with me! Many advisers and bankers have struggled with how art and clean h2o water connect. My naivete led me to believe that I could overcome those objections by being able to produce them myself. But over the weekend I participated in another business pitch competition and heard, "Why should I help Africa?"
It was stunning for me to hear that last week from someone I've been working with for over a year. Not that I believe they believe that but they were sharing what others may say about my business. And two days later I finally heard those words from the banker judging the pitch competition. It takes me by surprise to hear someone say--why should I care people do not have clean h2o? When I saw with my own eyes in 2006 that some children do not drink clean water...the idea that my husband has not...it really has changed my life forever.
But Saturday was still a very good day! I got some new information and I shared space with someone who gets my global vision. The ceramic water filters are a product needed world-wide and producing them expands our vision from Kumasi to a global market. But it is people like you that support this mission through reading this blog and supporting our Facebook page that remind me everyday there are people who care!
