I think the best investment for our future will be the Green Party's Jill Stein in 2016 and a Green New Deal
I debated if I would blog about the upcoming election. It is probably the most critical election since Bush v. Kerry. When we had to decide what we were going to do with the war. I think the country made the wrong choice but that's not what this post is about. Mark Cuban, of Shark Tank celebrity, recently endorsed Hillary Clinton in Pittsburgh with his usual flair for words. I have been in my personal life first rooting for Bernie Sanders to leaning towards Jill Stein.
Because of social media and alternative news websites I have been able to follow her and the Green Party. This interests led me to the Green Party of Louisiana state convention, that was held in New Orleans on this past Saturday. I went knowing I was ready to commit to vote for Jill Stein but what happened I never imagined.
Many Americans spent the last two weeks watching our two party's conventions. I watched them as a mother, social entrepreneur and black woman. That is why I decided to vote for Jill Stein of the Green Party- because of this platform. I have spent years trying to grow my business in New Orleans but post hurricane Katrina black businesses haven't faired so well in the recovery or growth of new businesses. My blog has been a witness to my struggle. It seemed fitting that I would endorse Jill Stein here.
Today I read a very troubling article in Inc. Magazine that concludes that Hillary and Trump do not have policies to address entrepreneurship, specifically small entrepreneurs like myself making handmade products or a hair stylist or landscaper for examples. I have spent years now being the squeaky wheel calling foul on New Orleans incubators and capital. Not just venture capital and angel investors but even the most basic of debt financing is hard to get and for many often predatory.
The final business of the Louisiana Green Party state convention was to nominate state delegates to the Green Party National Convention. In a surprise turn of events I was nominated as a state delegate and officially changed parties. I've been an independent other since moving here in 2009 and independent since 2008. I realize that I am more than a Democrat, I am a Progressive. I don't think there is room anymore for progressives in the democratic or republican party. I hope we can find a mutual home in the Green Party. The country needs a Green New Deal and the Green Party has one ready to implement.
Entrepreneurship is risky. Risk-takers need only apply. That's why I am taking a risk to do something different this election year. Not just by voting but getting involved in grassroots politics.
My children will be with me at the convention. And I have started a GoFundMe- if you can donate any amount it will support grassroots democracy. And history.
